Rural Immersion

A large part of the project's educational philosophy is tied deeply in culture. Within this program we study diversity & culture thus learning how to create inclusive classrooms for all of our students to feel safe within.

This week was titled "Rural Immersion" in which we immersed ourselves in a rural community. I think most of my peers thought we were going camping or something because our school was located on the eastern plains of Colorado 2 1/2 hours away from home and in some minds civilization. We were hosted by host families who fed us, took us to school and supported our needs as teachers in their community. They were wonderful!

I have never seen such strong community support for a town of 400 with a student body of 200 kids k-12 with only 10 seniors who will be graduating this year.

Their girls volleyball team was undefeated this year and on Thursday night the town sent them off to state with a town-wide pep ralley, the band playing loud and the gauntlet down the hallway and escorted out of town by the police & fire department. It was AWESOME!!!

I taught in the ag teachers classroom since there are only 20 teachers and there are 13 of my peers, 3 of us who want to teach business and only one business teacher. So I took the ag class w hich was so much fun with their new and young teacher. She is working so hard to gain the town's respect after the controversial firing of the last ag teacher but she's doing a great job! The students were so respectful and we got a lot of fun learning done!!!

I'm so sad to be leaving and I've really had a wonderful month!

Florida Wedding Highlights

Well it was FABULOUS!

My best friends got married to each other and I couldn't be happier. Their wedding was perfect!!!
We laid out together all day at the beach, had a late lunch and cocktails while getting dressed for the beach ceremony. It was windy but that didn't stop anything.
